Marvel Comics is making Thor a woman. From Time Magazine:
TIME: How do you think this will impact fans who have been with the male version of Thor for such a long time?
Jason Aaron, writer of the Thor series: If you’re a long-time Thor fan you know there’s kind of a tradition from time to time of somebody else picking up that hammer. Beta Ray Bill was a horse-faced alien guy who picked up the hammer. At one point Thor was a frog. So I think if we can accept Thor as a frog and a horse-faced alien, we should be able to accept a woman being able to pick up that hammer and wield it for a while, which surprisingly we’ve never really seen before.
WELL DONE, MARVEL! I’m saddened that they have to explain why they’re making Thor a woman, though. It’s not like they’d have to explain the existence of a male character.
This is lazy on their part. I want more female super heroes. Marvel has so very little when you think about it, and think outside of the x-men who do you really have? Ms. Marvel and Black Widow. But what gets me is that instead of killing Thor off you’re going to have him wondering around with a mythical axe. They should have killed him and removed him from the picture, but now you’ve basically said that you aren’t sure this female version of the Norse God is going to work without giving her a shot. So naturally we’re probably going to see her for maybe a year and then original Thor will most likely get the hammer back. I’m probably rambling, but I think praising Marvel for this is an over reaction. Again most likely rambling and sorry if you read this and it wasn’t satisfactory in any sense.
